NAIRL Hosts Exchange Meeting with IDLab Delegation from Ghent University

The National AI Research Lab (NAIRL) hosted an exchange meeting with a delegation from IDLab, a research lab jointly embedded in Ghent University and imec, at its Seocho office on September 17 to explore avenues for AI research collaboration.
The meeting was attended by Prof. Rik Van de Walle, Director of IDLab, along with Prof. Wesley De Neve and Prof. Joris Vankerschaver, who were welcomed by NAIRL Director Kee-Eung Kim and members of the lab. The visit took place as part of the Flanders Tech Mission organized by Flanders Investment & Trade at the Embassy of Belgium in Seoul.
IDLab conducts research across two pillars, internet technology and data science and AI, as part of both Ghent University and imec, Europe’s leading research institute in semiconductors and nanoelectronics. The lab brings together some 50 professors and is currently building The Brain, an AI tech hub at Tech Lane Ghent Science Park that will host up to 1,000 AI experts.

During the meeting, both sides shared their research directions and priority areas in an open and amicable exchange. The discussion identified common ground between the lab’s three flagship projects and IDLab’s research portfolio, and covered concrete forms of collaboration including researcher exchanges and joint workshops.
Building on this exchange, NAIRL plans to further expand its collaboration with research institutions across Europe.
NAIRL extends its sincere gratitude to the IDLab delegation for visiting, and will continue to expand exchanges with research institutions and partners around the world.
