[Op-Ed] From Toronto to Seoul: Building Bridges for Knowledge and Talent
Hussein Shamji, Director of Strategic Partnerships at the Vector Institute, writes about what he saw in Seoul on July 5, when NAIRL hosted the RIKEN-Vector-NAIRL Joint Workshop and NAIRL and Vector signed their MOU.
He calls it knowledge diplomacy. Computing power, capital, and data are increasingly tied to national strategy, but knowledge moves with researchers, and institutions that build reliable paths for that movement build bridges between countries.
Drawing on Vector’s experience, he names three things that are in place wherever a partnership leads to real researcher exchange, and explains why all three were present in Seoul. Why Canada and Korea, as middle powers in AI, gain the most by working together is in the column.
This column is part of NAIRL’s biweekly series “AI Talent Powerhouse,” published in ZDNet Korea.
