National AI Research Lab Officially Launches
The National AI Research Lab (NAIRL), a core platform for Korea’s leap to becoming an AI G3 nation, has officially launched at the Seoul AI Hub.
With a total investment of KRW 94.6 billion (approx. USD 65 million) by 2028, NAIRL will serve as a central pivot for global AI research where top domestic and international scholars collaborate. It plans to focus on challenging international joint research, such as projects to overcome the limits of the ‘Neural Scaling Law’ in collaboration with researchers from leading institutions in the US, Canada, and France.
Over 100 dignitaries, including Minister of Science and ICT Sang-im Yoo and Seoul Mayor Se-hoon Oh, attended the ceremony to celebrate the launch. To ensure the hub’s success, the government pledged to actively support the enactment of the ‘AI Basic Act’ to promote the AI industry and establish a foundation of trust.
