NAIRL Partners with Korea AI Safety Institute for AI Innovation and Safety
The National AI Research Lab (NAIRL) established a strategic partnership with the Korea AI Safety Institute (AISI) on the 20th, signing a Letter of Intent (LOI) to foster mutual cooperation and advance the AI ecosystem in the Republic of Korea. The ceremony was held at the AISI headquarters in Pangyo.
The event was attended by key leadership from both organizations, including Kee-Eung Kim, Director of NAIRL, and Myuhng-Joo Kim, Director of the Korea AI Safety Institute, who shared a commitment to building a robust and trustworthy AI future.
In his remarks, Kee-Eung Kim, Director of the National AI Research Lab, emphasized that AI innovation and safety are inseparable core values. “We are delighted to take this first step toward a solid partnership with the Korea AI Safety Institute, a leader in creating a safe and reliable AI environment,” Director Kim stated. “I believe this partnership will serve as a vital milestone for South Korea to exercise firm leadership in AI technology on the global stage.”
In response, Myuhng-Joo Kim, Director of the Korea AI Safety Institute, highlighted that AI safety and reliability have become the primary benchmarks for national AI competitiveness. Director Kim remarked, “If the safety research expertise of AISI is combined with the innovative research infrastructure of NAIRL, we can achieve both technological progress and reliability simultaneously. Together, we will deliver outstanding results that lead global standards and safety criteria in the AI era.”
During a working meeting, the two institutions agreed to build a comprehensive and future-oriented cooperation framework to ensure the stable integration of safe and innovative AI technologies. Beyond technical exchange, they committed to exploring multifaceted ways to enhance South Korea’s global standing in AI by activating knowledge sharing and joint initiatives.
This partnership is expected to serve as an essential foundation for more comprehensive national-level cooperation and joint academic activities between the two leading institutions. The National AI Research Lab will continue to communicate actively with partners like the Korea AI Safety Institute to build a trustworthy and innovative global AI ecosystem.
