Kim Ki-eung, Director of the National AI Research Lab (NAIRL) and Professor at KAIST, declared a vision to establish the Lab as a globally recognized center for AI innovation during its inauguration ceremony at the Seoul AI Hub.

To address high-risk challenges difficult for private enterprises to tackle alone, the Lab will focus on groundbreaking initiatives such as overcoming the limits of ‘Neural Scaling Laws’ and developing ‘Robot Foundation Models’ in collaboration with top-tier researchers from the US, Canada, and France.

Supported by a total funding of KRW 94.6 billion (approx. USD 65 million) through 2028, the Lab aims to secure Korea’s leadership in the global AI landscape by fostering an open ecosystem for international joint research and technology commercialization.
