IT Tycoon-Turned-Lawmaker Visits NAIRL to Champion Korea’s AI

A renowned former IT tycoon and current chair of the People Power Party’s AI Special Committee recently visited the National AI Research Lab (NAIRL) in Seoul to review research progress and emphasize the critical need for expanding infrastructure and cultivating talent to secure global competitiveness.

During the visit, the tech-mogul-turned-politician highlighted AI’s massive potential to revolutionize various industries, while NAIRL explained that leading international institutions are driving research with substantial budgets and requested robust government support including sufficient GPU resources.

Leveraging his deep industry expertise to shape national tech policy, the lawmaker proposed establishing specialized, autonomous AI educational institutions like Ecole 42 and pledged active legislative support to help Korea grow into a global AI research hub.
