[Op-Ed] To Become a Top 3 AI Power, Infrastructure and Talent Must Advance Together
In a recent op-ed, Kee-Eung Kim, Director of the National AI Research Lab (NAIRL), diagnosed that Korea must urgently address its severe talent shortage and brain drain alongside its massive infrastructure investments to truly become a global top-three AI powerhouse.
To overcome these challenges, he urged the creation of a flexible, open ecosystem capable of attracting top global talent regardless of nationality, while transforming the current “brain drain” into “brain linkage” by building collaborative networks with Korean experts abroad.
Emphasizing that even the most advanced infrastructure is meaningless without the experts to wield it, Director Kim declared his commitment to establishing NAIRL as a premier global hub where world-class AI elites naturally converge to drive innovation.
