Jean Ponce, Professor at Ecole normale superieure (ENS-PSL) and co-founder of the Paris AI institute PR[AI]RIE, made a four-day visit this summer to the POSTECH Computer Vision Lab led by Minsu Cho, once a postdoc in his Paris team and now a professor with students of his own.

He also asks why France placed a school at the heart of its national AI strategy, through PR[AI]RIE’s system binding research, education, and innovation, and the deepening ties with Korean research institutions, NAIRL among them.

Research, he writes, does not travel only through papers; it moves with people. What that journey from Paris to Pohang means for Korea is in the column.

This column is part of NAIRL’s biweekly series “AI Talent Powerhouse,” published in ZDNet Korea.
