Heung-Il-Suk

Professor

Professor Heung-Il Suk is a Professor in the Department of Artificial Intelligence at Korea University, where he leads the Machine Intelligence Laboratory (MiLab).

 

He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Korea University in 2012 and completed his postdoctoral training at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the United States.

 

Since joining Korea University in 2015, Professor Suk has focused on machine learning and deep learning, as well as AI applications in biomedical and healthcare domains, including brain–computer interfaces. His research achievements include the development of explainable AI for early prediction of Alzheimer’s disease and AI methods for time-series data analysis. Based on these contributions, he received the Academic Award from the Korean Society for Brain Mapping (2024) and the Commendation from the Minister of Food and Drug Safety (2023).

 

Furthermore, he has been recognized as one of the World’s Top 2% Scientists by Stanford University and Elsevier for six consecutive years (2020–2025). His current research interests span causal representation learning and reasoning, generative AI, foundation models, and AI+X applications in neuroscience, medicine, and biology.
