NAIRL operates under the mandate of Korea’s national government and is sustained by the public bodies that fund, plan, and host it — from national ministries to the Seoul districts where the lab is based.

Ministry of Science and ICT is the central government ministry overseeing science, technology, and ICT policy in South Korea. It spearheaded the establishment of the National AI Research Lab and continues to support its operation.

The Institute of Information & Communications Technology Planning & Evaluation (IITP) is a government agency under the Ministry of Science and ICT responsible for planning and managing national ICT R&D programs. It oversees the implementation of the national R&D program for establishing NAIRL.
