Hyunjung Shim
Associate Professor
Professor Hyunjung(Kate) Shim is a faculty member at KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology), where she leads the Computer Vision and Machine Learning Laboratory (CVML).
She received her M.S. (2004) and Ph.D. (2008) degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, and her B.S. degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Yonsei University.
After completing her Ph.D., she worked at Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology (SAIT), conducting research on industrial applications of 3D vision and graphics technologies. From 2013 to 2022, she served as a faculty member in the School of Integrated Technology at Yonsei University, leading research on AI-based visual intelligence.
Since joining KAIST in 2022, Professor Shim has been actively pursuing research aimed at improving generalization and efficiency in computer vision and machine learning.
Her current research focuses on robust perception, autonomous driving, generative AI, and trustworthy AI, exploring new models and learning paradigms for visual intelligence.
