Experts Warn of Economic Crisis, Urging AI Innovation and Bold Talent Acquisition

Director Kee-Eung Kim of the National AI Research Lab (NAIRL) and other top domestic economic and industry experts recently convened at a roundtable to diagnose Korea’s deepening economic crisis amid slow growth and global tech competition, warning of the urgent need for bold structural reforms.

To address the severe shortage of professionals in the semiconductor and AI sectors, Director Kim proposed a highly proactive open immigration policy to aggressively recruit not only outstanding STEM talent from developing nations but also core Chinese AI researchers drawn to liberal democratic values.

Furthermore, the attendees collectively stressed that Korea must innovate its domestic regulatory environment and drive productivity-led growth to secure new national economic engines in the upcoming era of artificial intelligence.
